Crystals absorb energy from their environment — and from you. Over time, they can start to feel heavy or dull, especially after periods of stress or emotional intensity. Cleansing resets their energy so they can support you at full strength.
Here are five simple methods to cleanse your crystals at home.
- Moonlight
Place your crystals on a windowsill or outside under the full moon overnight. Moonlight is the gentlest and most universal cleansing method — safe for all crystal types. This is our preferred method at Lunara Stones: every bracelet we ship has been cleansed under the full moon before it reaches you.
Best for: All crystals, especially softer stones that can’t handle water or salt.
- Sage or Palo Santo Smoke
Light a sage bundle or palo santo stick and let the smoke wash over your crystals for 30–60 seconds. The smoke is believed to carry away stagnant energy. Make sure to open a window so the energy has somewhere to go.
Best for: Quick daily cleansing, especially if you wear your crystals every day.
- Sound
Use a singing bowl, tuning fork, or even a simple bell near your crystals. The vibrations help break up stuck energy. Hold the sound for about a minute, moving it around your crystals.
Best for: Cleansing multiple crystals at once without handling each one individually.
- Earth
Bury your crystals in soil — either in your garden or in a pot of clean earth — for 24 hours. The earth absorbs and neutralizes accumulated energy. Just remember to mark where you buried them.
Best for: Deep cleansing when a crystal feels especially heavy or after a difficult period.
- Selenite
Place your crystals on or next to a piece of selenite for 4–6 hours. Selenite is one of the few crystals believed to cleanse other stones without needing cleansing itself.
Best for: Ongoing maintenance — keep a selenite plate on your nightstand or desk as a permanent cleansing station.
How Often Should You Cleanse?
There’s no strict rule, but a good rhythm is once a month (ideally around the full moon), after any emotionally intense experience, or whenever your crystal just doesn’t feel right.
Trust your intuition — if you feel like your crystal needs a reset, it probably does.
